Therapeutic Approaches

Counselling encompasses various approaches and techniques that help you navigate your challenges and facilitate personal growth. Here are some of the counselling approaches I will use.

Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on identifying and modifying negative thought patterns and behaviours that contribute to emotional distress. It aims to develop healthier coping strategies and promote positive change.

Psychodynamic Therapy

This approach explores how unconscious thoughts and past experiences shape present behaviours and emotions. It delves into unresolved conflicts and aims to foster insight and self-awareness.

Humanistic Therapy

Humanistic approaches, such as Person-Centred Therapy, emphasise the importance of empathy, unconditional positive regards and genuineness in the therapeutic relationship. The focus is on self-exploration, personal growth and self-actualisation.

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)

This approach concentrates on identifying and building solutions rather than dwelling on problems. It is future-oriented and emphasises setting goals, utilising strengths and finding practical solutions.

Gestalt Therapy

Gestalt Therapy focuses on increasing self-awareness and understanding by exploring present experiences and relationships. It emphasises personal responsibility, integration of thoughts and feelings and promoting authentic and meaningful living.

Narrative Therapy

Narrative therapy involves exploring and reshaping the stories we tell about ourselves and our experiences. It focuses on understanding how narratives shape our identity and empowering individuals to rewrite their stories in more positive and empowering ways.

Mindfulness-Based Approaches

Mindfulness-based approaches, such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), involve cultivation of present-moment awareness, acceptance and non-judgement. These approaches can help individuals develop resilience, reduce stress, and enhance overall well being.
